It's been a little over two weeks since I actually updated this blog. Not a good thing for a new blog, but it helps to highlight that the point of it was to make time for the things I find important. That in itself is what makes the update for this worthwhile.
Perhaps the biggest thing to note is that the interim between the last update and now was the introduction of the video game podcast I'm doing with Mike, or Lord Skywalker. For anyone listening to the regular Fandom42 podcasts they'll probably have realized that I haven't been on it lately, and that's largely due to my hectic schedule and me having the preference that a podcasts gets released with or without me. That can also largely explain the lack of articles lately on the main pages. Life happens, but we're all committed!
With that in mind I do have a few things to talk about as far this blog's goals. First off I have largely finalized by setup for Twitch streaming which will be the main place to catch my attempts at completing games. I've mentioned elsewhere that the Dark Souls series is one I'd like to actually complete, so you'll be able to watch me die over and over again on Twitch. I'm RaidenF42 over there if you'd like to check out. In setting that up we've considered setting up a Twitch specifically for Fandom42 to host live content. More on that to come later.
The second, and final, big thing to talk about this week is my commitment to creating. I've never been a particular creative person, but I have always had an intense interest in the art of making things. What better way to take that interest and my nerdy passions than to combine them into act of making a game! Nothing big, nothing fancy, but seeing where I can go on my own as someone who just wants to make their own game. In itself it's something that'll force me to pick up new skills or improve existing ones. For instance, I'm terrible at drawing, but not so terrible that I can't improve it. I love programming (though I really am quite bad at it). Once I figure out sound design I figure I can learn.
That's what it's about. Learning. That, and appreciation of the things I love. I've already decided to use GameMaker 1.4 since I've had experience with it in the past, so even a simple game to me will be progress. I'll post updates with my block art soon.
Thanks for reading.
